It’s hard to believe that 30 years have passed since the invention of PCR in 1983. Although it was discovered very much by accident, (see how was PCR discovered anyways?), PCR has turned out to be one of the most important tools in molecular biology research and continues to evolve to this day. There are so many technologies that involve variations of PCR, (think qPCR, microarray, droplet digital PCR), that it’s almost impossible to become an expert in all of them.

As a tribute to 30 years since the discovey of PCR, Bio-Rad Laboratories has put together an infographic highlighting many important milestones in the PCR timeline which is available for download in pdf format.
